Analyze Learners

  1. 25 students
  2. 12 Males/13Females
  3. Age Range: 15-17
  4. Prerequisites: a) Students can interpret charts and statistics

b) Students are will be able to use MS Excel and PowerPoint

c) Students will do research through the internet

State Objectives

Working in Groups of 5:

  1. Students will choose a U.S. city & collect 3 relevant data ranging over a 10-yr period

a) Crime rate (specifically Domestic and Family violence, all degree of rape, homicide)

b) Gross Domestic Product statistical data of the city (used to measure the economy)

c) Population growth and decline (paying close attention to migratory movements)

  1. Students will be able to input above data into a MS Excel spreadsheet.
  2. Students will create a co-relational line chart to show relationship between the data collected
  3. Students will be able to evaluate their chart and compare their findings online data.

Select Media, Materials, and Methods

  1. Use of MS Excel Spreadsheet and charts
  2. Internet search engines

Utilize Media, Materials, and Methods

  1. Research using online search engines to acquire statistical data focus on primary content
  2. Students will use MS Excel to record each data for crime, economy and population
  3. Students will use MS Excel to create line chart based on recorded

Require Learner Participation Require Learner Participation

Students will discuss information on crime, economy and population that they found and posted on an excel chart. Students will show the relationship between the topics, whether it is inter-related or not by the use of the line chart. Students are to deliver weekly progress report at the beginning of each week.


Evaluate & Revise

Evaluation methods for each of the following are included:

  1. Students’ performance will be evaluated by writing a report or summary on their findings and present their chart.
  2. Students’ will also be evaluated on their presentation in class of the data collected.
  3. Media competence will be evaluated by the charts created by the students. Contents will be evaluated on whether their data was relevant to the topic of crime, economy, and population
